From the Earth is an event which is planned to take place in June 2016. Its aim is to promote ethical textile practices in the broadest sense, through the use of natural dyes and natural printing processes, natural fabrics and fibres, with particular reference to those produced in ethical ways upcycling and incorporating other natural materials and found items.
Currently a month long exhibition is planned at the lovely PS Arts Centre, Datchworth, Herts. In addition to this, we are putting together a series of associated workshops by well known textile practitioners which will be held at nearby ArtVanGo in Knebworth.
We are very pleased to have Alice Fox as out guest artist at the exhibition and Jenny Dean has kindly agreed to open it. Alice and India Flint among others will be offering workshops at Art Van Go
Artists working with natural fibres, natural colours and natural mark making techniques are invited to apply to participate in the exhibition. Please send jpegs of your work(s) plus titles, dimensions of the work(s) and materials used to firstname.lastname@example.org. Closing date is 31st January 2016. The work will then be selected and then we will inform you sometime during February 2016. Please mark your images with your name and initials FTE for example; janesmith FTE1.
Hanging; If the work is framed please use d rings with a picture cord or wire on the back. If unframed or a quilt please use a hanging sleeve with baton and picture cord. You may use other forms of hanging but please think this through and give clear details. PS Arts will charge an additional fee of £5 if they need to rehang.
Space is alotted in one metre wide portions and successful applicants with be asked to pay a small fee of £25 to cover the costs of running the exhibition. Should applicants have larger works for consideration then it may be possible for a 2 metre space to be allocated, in which case a charge of £50 would apply. Within the standard metre space, this may be filled with a large piece or a group of smaller pieces. Please also note we would welcome 3D pieces.
Work can be for sale. A 20% commission is payable to the gallery. We also plan to have a small shop within the exhibition again a commission will be payable. More about this later.

Exhibitors will be responsible for insurance and delivery of their work, we can return by post/ courier on receipt of appropriate costs.
